Sponsors & CROs

What are Clinical Study Sponsors & CROs?

Clinical study sponsors are organizations, institutions, or individuals who are responsible for initiating, managing, and funding clinical trials. They can be pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies, academic research institutions, government agencies, or non-profit organizations. Sponsors have the ultimate responsibility for the conduct of the clinical trial, including ensuring that it is conducted according to ethical and regulatory standards and that the results are accurately reported.

Contract Research Organizations (CROs) are companies that are hired by sponsors to conduct various aspects of a clinical studyon their behalf. CROs provide a range of services, including study design, site selection, patient recruitment, data management, statistical analysis, and regulatory support. CROs can also conduct site monitoring and ensure that the clinical study is being conducted in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.

In summary, sponsors are responsible for the overall management and funding of clinical trials, while CROs are contracted by sponsors to conduct specific aspects of the trial.
